Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution (Careprost)

Bimatoprost Ophthalmic Solution (Careprost) is a prostaglandin analog used for reducing elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. By increasing the outflow of aqueous humor, Careprost helps lower IOP, preventing damage to the optic nerve and reducing the risk of vision loss associated with glaucoma.

In addition to its ophthalmic use, Careprost is also widely used to enhance eyelash growth, making eyelashes longer, thicker, and darker. It is often prescribed for individuals with hypotrichosis (insufficient eyelash growth).

Indications:

Careprost is indicated for:

• The reduction of elevated intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension
• Treatment of hypotrichosis of the eyelashes to increase length, thickness, and darkness

Dosage and Administration:

• For Glaucoma/Ocular Hypertension: Apply one drop of Careprost Ophthalmic Solution in the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening. Avoid using more than once daily, as this may reduce the effectiveness.
• For Eyelash Growth: Apply one drop of Careprost onto a sterile applicator or brush and apply it to the upper eyelid margin at the base of the eyelashes, once daily in the evening. Do not apply to the lower eyelid.

Instructions for Use:

• Wash your hands before applying the solution.
• If applying for eye pressure reduction, tilt your head back slightly, pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and apply the drop.
• For eyelash growth, carefully apply the solution to the base of the upper eyelashes using a clean applicator.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye or eyelids, to prevent contamination.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Bimatoprost or any of the ingredients in the formulation
• Should not be used in patients with active eye infections or inflammatory conditions without medical advice

Precautions:

• Long-term use of Careprost may cause a gradual change in eye color, increasing brown pigmentation of the iris. This change may be permanent.
• Darkening of the eyelid skin and increased eyelash length, thickness, and number may occur during use. These changes may gradually reverse when treatment is stopped.
• Apply Careprost carefully to avoid unwanted hair growth in areas where the solution may contact the skin.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of eye inflammation, macular edema, or those with severe dry eyes.
• If using other eye drops, administer Careprost at least five minutes after other eye medications to prevent dilution or washout.

Side Effects:

Common side effects may include:

• Eye redness (conjunctival hyperemia)
• Eye discomfort, dryness, or itching
• Darkening of the eyelid or changes in eyelash appearance
• Increased eyelash growth

Serious side effects (seek medical attention if these occur):

• Vision changes or blurred vision
• Eye pain or swelling
• Sensitivity to light
• Severe eye irritation or signs of infection (e.g., redness, discharge)

Drug Interactions:

• Use of multiple prostaglandin analogs in the eye may reduce the effectiveness of Careprost.
• Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and other eye medications should be used with caution, ensuring sufficient time between applications.

Storage:

• Store Careprost at room temperature between 15°C and 25°C (59°F and 77°F), away from direct sunlight and moisture.
• Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use to avoid contamination.
• Keep out of reach of children.

Packaging:

• Careprost Ophthalmic Solution is typically available in sterile dropper bottles containing 3ml of solution.
