Allopurinol 100mg (Zyloric) is a medication used primarily for the management of gout and certain types of kidney stones. Allopurinol is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor that works by reducing uric acid levels in the blood. Elevated uric acid levels can lead to the formation of crystals in the joints, causing gout attacks and discomfort. By decreasing uric acid production, Zyloric helps prevent gout flares and complications associated with hyperuricemia.

Indications:

Allopurinol 100mg (Zyloric) is indicated for:

• The treatment of gout and hyperuricemia (high uric acid levels)
• Prevention of gout attacks and related complications
• Management of uric acid levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy or radiation therapy, which can elevate uric acid due to tumor lysis syndrome

Dosage and Administration:

• Recommended Dose: The usual starting dose for adults is 100mg to 300mg per day, taken orally. The dose may be adjusted based on uric acid levels and individual patient response.
• Allopurinol should be taken after meals with a full glass of water to minimize gastrointestinal irritation.
• Regular monitoring of uric acid levels is necessary to assess treatment effectiveness and adjust dosage as needed.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Allopurinol or any of its components
• Patients with acute gout attacks should not initiate therapy with Allopurinol until the acute attack has resolved
