Product Description: DOXT – SL 100mg Tablets contain Doxycycline, a tetracycline antibiotic effective against a wide range of bacterial infections. Doxycycline works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis, thereby stopping the growth and replication of bacteria. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of various infections, including respiratory tract infections, skin infections, urinary tract infections, and certain sexually transmitted diseases.

Indications: DOXT – SL 100mg is indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as pneumonia, bronchitis, and sinusitis; skin infections including acne and cellulitis; urinary tract infections caused by susceptible bacteria; sexually transmitted infections such as chlamydia; malaria prophylaxis for travelers to areas where malaria is endemic; and rickettsial infections such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

Dosage and Administration: The usual adult dose is 100mg taken once or twice daily, depending on the type and severity of the infection. For certain conditions, a higher initial dose may be recommended. Doxycycline should be taken with a full glass of water and can be taken with or without food, although taking it with food may help minimize gastrointestinal discomfort. Avoid lying down for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet to prevent esophageal irritation.

Contraindications: Known hypersensitivity to Doxycycline or other tetracycline antibiotics; pregnancy and breastfeeding (unless specifically prescribed); and children under the age of 8 years due to the risk of tooth discoloration and bone development issues.

Precautions: Use with caution in patients with hepatic or renal impairment, as dosage adjustments may be necessary. Doxycycline can cause increased sensitivity to sunlight; patients should avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen. Consult a healthcare provider before using Doxycycline during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

Side Effects: Common side effects may include nausea and vomiting, diarrhea or gastrointestinal discomfort, photosensitivity (increased sunburn risk), headache, and dizziness. Serious side effects that require immediate medical attention include severe allergic reactions (e.g., rash, itching, swelling, difficulty breathing), signs of liver problems (e.g., jaundice, dark urine), severe gastrointestinal side effects (e.g., persistent diarrhea), and esophageal irritation or ulceration.

Drug Interactions: Doxycycline may interact with certain medications, including anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), antacids containing aluminum or magnesium, and other antibiotics. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, and herbal products you are taking to avoid potential interactions.
