Imiquimod 5% (Imiquad) Cream is a topical immunomodulatory medication used to treat specific skin conditions by stimulating the body’s immune system. Imiquimod works by activating immune cells and promoting the release of cytokines, which help to fight abnormal skin growths caused by viruses or other skin disorders. It is commonly prescribed for the treatment of actinic keratosis, superficial basal cell carcinoma, and external genital and perianal warts (caused by the human papillomavirus, HPV).
Imiquimod does not directly kill viruses or cancer cells but encourages the immune system to respond to the abnormal tissue, promoting healing and the clearance of lesions.
Indications:
Imiquimod 5% (Imiquad) Cream is indicated for:
- Actinic keratosis (AK): Treatment of AK on the face or scalp in patients with normal immune systems.
- Superficial basal cell carcinoma (sBCC): Treatment of small, superficial forms of basal cell carcinoma in patients who cannot undergo surgical treatment.
- External genital and perianal warts: Treatment of warts caused by HPV in the genital or anal area.
