Janumet 50mg/500mg Tablets is an oral medication used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults. It combines two active ingredients: sitagliptin, a DPP-4 (dipeptidyl peptidase-4) inhibitor, and metformin, a biguanide. Sitagliptin works by increasing the levels of incretin hormones, which help control blood sugar by increasing insulin production after meals and reducing the amount of sugar made by the liver. Metformin lowers glucose production in the liver and improves the body’s sensitivity to insulin, making it more effective at lowering blood sugar levels.

This combination helps in controlling blood sugar levels, especially postprandial (after meals) glucose levels, and is used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan, including diet and exercise, for patients with type 2 diabetes.

Indications:

• Treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet, exercise, and metformin alone do not adequately control blood sugar levels.
• It may be used as a first-line therapy in patients who require combination therapy or for patients already taking sitagliptin and metformin as separate medications.

Dosage and Administration:

• Adults: One tablet taken twice daily with meals, or as directed by a healthcare provider.
• Janumet should be taken with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects commonly associated with metformin, such as nausea or diarrhea.
• The dosage should be individualized based on the patient’s current blood sugar levels, renal function, and response to treatment.
