Jardiance 25mg Tablets contain empagliflozin, a sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitor. It is used to lower blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Jardiance works by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, leading to the elimination of excess glucose through the urine. In addition to controlling blood sugar, it has cardiovascular benefits and is also prescribed to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death in patients with type 2 diabetes and established heart disease.
Indications:
- Treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control.
- Reduction in the risk of cardiovascular death in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease.
Dosage and Administration:
- Adults: One 25mg tablet taken once daily, in the morning, with or without food.
- Swallow the tablet whole with water.
- The dosage may be adjusted depending on kidney function or the patient’s response to treatment.
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to empagliflozin or any of the excipients in the tablet.
- Severe renal impairment (eGFR below 30 mL/min/1.73 m²), end-stage renal disease, or patients on dialysis.
Precautions:
- Monitor renal function before starting therapy and during treatment.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of urinary tract infections, dehydration, or low blood pressure.

Side Effects:

Serious but less common side effects include:
- Diabetic ketoacidosis (signs include difficulty breathing, nausea, vomiting, and confusion)
- Severe dehydration
- Genital yeast infections
Drug Interactions:
- Jardiance can increase the risk of hypoglycemia when combined with insulin or sulfonylureas.
- It may interact with diuretics, leading to an increased risk of dehydration or low blood pressure.
