Maraviroc (AXENTRI) 150mg Tablets are an antiviral medication used in the treatment of HIV-1 (Human Immunodeficiency Virus type 1) infection in adults and pediatric patients who weigh at least 40 kg. Maraviroc belongs to a class of drugs known as CCR5 antagonists. It works by blocking the CCR5 co-receptor on the surface of immune cells, preventing the entry of the HIV virus into these cells. This mechanism of action helps reduce the viral load in the body and improve immune function.

Indications:

Maraviroc (AXENTRI) 150mg Tablets are indicated for:

• The treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral medications in treatment-experienced and treatment-naïve adults and children aged 2 years and older with a confirmed CCR5-tropic HIV-1 infection.

Dosage and Administration:

• Recommended Dosage: The typical starting dosage for adults and children aged 12 years and older is 300mg (two 150mg tablets) taken twice daily. For children aged 2 to 11 years, the dosage is determined based on body weight.
• Maraviroc should be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to be consistent with how it is taken in relation to meals.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Maraviroc or any of its components.
• Patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance less than 30 mL/min) who are receiving potent CYP3A inhibitors.

Precautions:

• Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended, especially in patients with a history of liver disease.
• Patients should be tested for CCR5-tropic HIV-1 before starting Maraviroc therapy to ensure effectiveness.
