Oseltamivir 75mg (Antiflu) is an antiviral medication used for the prevention and treatment of influenza virus infections. It is particularly effective against both influenza A and B viruses. Oseltamivir works by inhibiting the neuraminidase enzyme, which is essential for the virus’s replication and release from infected cells. By blocking this enzyme, Oseltamivir helps to reduce the severity and duration of flu symptoms, as well as the risk of complications associated with influenza.

Indications:

Oseltamivir 75mg (Antiflu) is indicated for:

• Treatment of acute uncomplicated influenza in patients aged 1 year and older who have been symptomatic for no more than two days.
• Prophylaxis (prevention) of influenza in individuals who have been exposed to the virus and are at high risk for developing the illness.

Dosage and Administration:

• Recommended Dosage for Treatment: The usual dose for adults and children over 12 years is 75mg twice daily for 5 days. For children aged 1 to 12 years, the dose is based on body weight.
• Recommended Dosage for Prophylaxis: The usual dose for adults and children over 12 years is 75mg once daily for at least 10 days following exposure to influenza. For children aged 1 to 12 years, the dose is based on body weight.
• Capsules should be taken orally with water, and they can be taken with or without food. Taking them with food may reduce the likelihood of gastrointestinal side effects.

Contraindications:

• Hypersensitivity to Oseltamivir or any of its components
• Patients with severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 10 mL/min) should use Oseltamivir with caution, and dosage adjustments may be necessary.

Precautions:

• Oseltamivir should not be used as a substitute for the annual influenza vaccine.
• Use with caution in patients with a history of psychiatric disorders, as neuropsychiatric events (e.g., confusion, hallucinations) have been reported in some patients.
• Regular monitoring is advised for patients with underlying health conditions that may complicate influenza.

• Fatigue

Serious side effects (seek medical attention if these occur):
