Indications:
Valacyclovir 1000mg (Valcivir) is indicated for:
- Treatment of initial and recurrent episodes of genital herpes in adults.
- Suppressive therapy for recurrent genital herpes.
- Treatment of herpes zoster (shingles) in adults.
- Treatment of cold sores (herpes labialis) in adults.
- Reduction of the risk of transmission of genital herpes to uninfected partners.
Dosage and Administration:
- Recommended Dosage for Genital Herpes: The usual dose for the treatment of an initial episode is 1,000mg taken twice daily for 7 to 10 days. For recurrent episodes, the recommended dose is 500mg taken twice daily for 3 to 5 days.
- Recommended Dosage for Suppressive Therapy: The usual dose is 500mg to 1,000mg taken once daily, depending on the frequency of outbreaks.
- Recommended Dosage for Herpes Zoster: The recommended dose is 1,000mg taken three times daily for 7 days.
- Recommended Dosage for Cold Sores: The typical dose is 2,000mg taken at the first sign of symptoms, followed by a second dose 12 hours later (do not take more than two doses in one day).
Valacyclovir should be taken orally with or without food. It is important to stay well-hydrated during treatment.
Contraindications:

- Patients with severe renal impairment should use Valacyclovir with caution, and dosage adjustments may be necessary.
